War in Iraq
06/03/2007 // 3 Comments // Categories: Junk. There was a suggestion that I should write about the war in Iraq for my controversial article section. So I will respond to this suggestion, and if anyone has anymore ideas for controversial articles please tell me.
War is a hard topic to talk about, usually I would start out strong and say I am for the war or against it. But it is a little more complicated than that. I will start out by saying that I am for certain parts of the war and against others. My history teacher once told my class that one of the reasons George W. Bush went to war with Iraq was because his father did. Another reason for his entrance into the war should be obvious to most people. OIL!!! One reason I think this war is good is that we are helping people. You may be thinking, “how in the world are we helping people by killing them.” I will argue that even if we were not there killing people, the Iraqis would still be killing each other anyways. I think as Americans it is our duty to help others. The first step was the capture of Saddam Hussein. Now we need to build up a democratic government. It seems very selfish to live in the wealthiest country on earth and not help other countries. Think of what would have happened if we never helped Europe against Hitler. We should always want to rid the world of evil rulers. I also think it is good if America can control the oil, unless you can think of a better country?
Here is where I disagree with the war. I think Bush used the 9/11 attacks as excuses to go and attack Iraq. This war seemed like it was more of a personal thing for Bush than for the welfare of Iraq and America. Wasn’t it Osama Bin Laden who caused the terrorist attacks not Saddam Husein? (sarcastic question) I also think we are screwing around way to much in Iraq. We need to secure Iraq as much as we can by getting rid of as many terrorists groups as we can, and build up the democratic government to the best of our abilities. Then get the troops out of Iraq but leave some behind to keep an eye on things. Now its your turn to write your opinion and state whether you love me or think I am mentally insane.

I think it’s a little ridiculous to assume Georgie went to war just because his father did. There’s really nothing to back up that claim. Sure, American oil interests are at heart, but people always try to find fault with our motives when we simply wish to rid the world of evil dictators. If America is so power-hungry, greedy, evil, imperialistic, then why did we rid the world of the 3 biggest evils in the 20th century, communism (still around unfortunately), facism, nazism. We could have claimed some land for ourselves there, but we didn’t, just trying to help rid the world of some bad guys.

I agree with you Brian, it’s great he got rid of some evil people. I think it would be cool if you thought of some other controversial topics because it’s cool to see people’s views on things in life.

I have another controversial topic you can talk about. You can talk about your take on taking God out of schools and other stuff like the pledge of allegiance.
