UNetBootin: Another Easy Way to Install Linux

By Josh | October 5, 2007

Remember Wubi? It is a nice way to be able to install Ubuntu without partitioning your harddrive. I used it over the summer to get myself familiar with Linux, but I got tired of it. Now there is another way to install Linux onto a PC by using UNetBootin. It doesn’t just install Ubuntu. You have a choice from Debian, Arch Linux, Fedora, Mandriva, OpenSuse 10.2, and Ubuntu 6.06 - 7.10. It isn’t like Wubi where you can install it without a partition. You will end up having a dual-boot machine that can boot into both Linux and Windows.

The nice feature about this is that you don’t have to burn a CD. This will just install Linux straight to your harddrive. It would be great for those computers that don’t have a CD burner.

Right now it isn’t available for Windows Vista, so I can’t go fooling around with it since I have a Vista PC. That is probably a good thing, since I almost destroyed my computer over the summer while experimenting with Ubuntu. Download Squad says that there will be a Vista release in the near future.
