Eve Patch Deleted Windows Boot.ini
By Josh | December 6, 2007
So if you play Eve Online, then you know that there was a patch/expansion yesterday that improved the graphics. If you haven’t recently visited the home page of Eve or the forums, and if you haven’t rebooted your computer since applying the patch, then you probably don’t know that many people’s computers have been completely messed up. There is a message on the Eve home page in big red letters that says not to reboot your computer until you have read through their method of fixing the problem.
If you have Windows Vista, then your computer will be fine. Also, if you downloaded the new Premium client directly, you will be fine. If you have Windows XP and downloaded the Classic Client, then allowed it to update to the Premium client, your boot.ini file has probably been obliterated. This is a very serious problem that I can’t believe wasn’t caught before the patch went live. Without your boot.ini file you can’t boot into your computer. There is a fix listed on the forums. If you have tried rebooting your computer, and it doesn’t work then I’m sure that you could put in your boot CD and fix it from there.
I have Vista so I’m not affected. This is actually one time I’m glad I have Vista. As for the patch itself, the graphics are a very nice improvement. I’m going to have to get another gig of RAM if I want to turn everything all the way up, but what does work is a lot better.
