Gnome-Do Application Launcher for Linux
By Josh | December 10, 2007
Gnome-Do is a nice application launcher for Gnome that is a lot like Launchy for Windows. It is supposedly similar to Quicksilver for Macs too, but I have never used Quicksilver so I can’t say whether that is true or not. You can get Gnome-Do from here. Once it is installed, you can invoke the command “gnome-do” to get it running, then whenever you want to launch a program you just push the Super+Space keys. It will then pop up a window and you can start typing the name of the application that you want to launch.
Alt+F2 is also a way to launch programs, but Gnome-Do is made just for this purpose. I’m not sure yet which one I will use, but I’ll continue to try out Gnome-Do to see if I like it. I haven’t been on Linux in a month or so, so I have to fix a few things. For some reason Compiz decided to totally screw up.
