Qtrax Ran into some Trouble
01/28/2008 // No Comments // Categories: Entertainment, Internet, Software // Tags: download, free, label, legal, music, p2p, qtrax, record, Software, trouble.Looks like Qtrax ran into some trouble with the agreements that they thought they had with the major record labels. Apparently, 3 of the record labels denied signing on to Qtrax. Qtrax’s website has also not released their software for download to everyone yet. Earlier today I checked their website and they said they were releasing it in segments or something like that (can’t remember exactly what they said). I was able to find the software for download off of some German website though.
After downloading the software, I realized that it is based off of Songbird. The difference is that Qtrax has a whole website filled with music that they were going to offer as downloads. There are millions of tracks available, but when you try playing or downloading them you get a message that says downloads will be available soon. The songs are only playable and downloadable using the Qtrax software. You can access the music site in any other browser, but you will not be able to play or download the music.
I can tell that Qtrax has a huge amount of people that want to use this software, so they will most likely make a lot of money if this works out. I just don’t understand the whole deal with the record labels. I wonder if Qtrax lied about having agreements with them, and then ended up finding out that they’d get in trouble if they released their software. I personally hope it all works out. I really want to see if this concept of free and legal music through P2P works.
Do you think it will work? Let me know in the comments.
Update: The software is now available for download on their website.
By the way, the comments were deleted due to server transfer. Sorry about that.
