Creating a Feed with Google Reader
By Josh | February 6, 2008
I use Google Reader as my RSS reader, and have been using it for a while now. I used to use Thunderbird, but Google Reader allows me to access my RSS subscriptions from any computer. If you don’t know what an RSS reader is, then here is the Wikipedia page. I might put up a post soon to explain what RSS is, so that any of my readers that are new to reading blogs will know about it.
In Google Reader, I’ve been starring any items that I think are interesting. That way I can read it later if I want. Well, I have known that you can share items with Google Reader, but I had no idea that it would actually create your own RSS feed of shared items. It actually even creates a page for your shared items, which really resembles a blog. You can see my shared items that I just started here.
You can see a great video about this from DL.tv. They go through some stuff that you probably already know in the beginning, and then they mumble about some stuff at the end; but they give a good explanation of how Google’s shared items work.
This would be a great way to show your friends or blog readers what you are reading. You could also put a widget on your blog to show your recently shared items. I think I’m going to start sharing my items instead of starring them. What do you think?
