Connect to Skype on Pidgin
By Josh | February 7, 2008
I’ve been using Pidgin for a long time, and I always wished that they would include Skype so that I didn’t have to have both programs running. Well, I found this Skype plugin for Pidgin that will add your Skype contacts to your list of contacts in Pidgin. It is different than just adding an AIM account or a Google Talk account. It will actually open Skype to verify your account.
The one bad thing is that it seems like you need to have Skype running in the background in order for it to work. I tried closing Skype to see if I could just have Pidgin running, but Pidgin opens Skype back up after I close it. So, in my opinion, I think this is kinda useless. If you are going to have both running anyways, then why not just use Skype? I only have one contact in Skype anyways, so it’s not like it’s that big of a deal. I mostly use AIM/Google Talk for all of my messaging needs.

You can download it if you want, and maybe you’ll find something out that I didn’t. I just hope that they incorporate Skype into Pidgin so that you don’t need to have both running.
