Updating my Twitter and RTM accounts with Jott
By Josh | April 1, 2008
Twitter has been so addicting. I haven’t really posted much on my account, but just reading the random posts from the few people I’m following can be entertaining. The people I’m following also post up some nice links to some interesting websites. I was just reading this post on TypePadHacks.org about some Twitter tools and tweaks and I found a link to Jott. I have heard of Jott before, but I’ve never bothered with it. So this time I decided to take a look at it.
Jott is unique in that it allows you to create tasks using your phone. What really makes this service nice is that it can interact with your Twitter account, Remember the Milk, and many other services. I thought this was pretty cool, especially since I’ve been using both Remember the Milk and Twitter this past week. So I set up my Jott account and gave it a whirl.
On my way back from class this afternoon, I thought I’d give it a try, so I called Jott and gave myself a reminder on RTM to finish some work this evening. I was wondering if it would translate my message into text correctly since there was some wind blowing into my microphone on my cell. I got back to my apartment and checked my email and Jott emailed me saying that my message was recorded, and it was recorded correctly. That’s pretty good for a free service. I think this could definitely help me out especially since I seem to remember about stuff that I have to do while I’m away from my apartment.
I haven’t tried the Twitter feature yet, but I suppose it is the same thing. I probably don’t even want to try the Wordpress feature. I could make a whole post to my blog over my cell phone, and I’m sure that there would be some trouble recording the message. Plus it would probably be easier to just type a blog post. I’ll be experimenting some more with it to see what else I can do. The one thing that annoys me is that I don’t see any option to turn of SMS messages for reminders. I’d like it if I could just be emailed with reminders since I get charged extra on my cell for receiving SMS messages. I can’t seem to find any option to disable it though.
