Record audio and video off of the internet with Freecorder

By Josh | April 15, 2008

I’ve been looking around on the internet for some good audio recorders, but all of the ones I could find would record all audio coming from your computer. I don’t want an audio recorder that is going to record the beeps and other random sound from my instant messenger, twhirl, etc. I just wanted something that was going to record audio from Firefox/IE. Well, I found one that does what I want, although it adds a toolbar to my browser, which I don’t really need.

Freecorder will record the audio that is streaming from websites like Myspace, Imeem, Youtube, etc., and will save it as an MP3 or WAV to a specified location. It’s great if you constantly finding yourself going to these websites to listen to music. That way you can just record it and create your own playlists. You also have options to have it automatically named with the date and time, or you could have it prompt you before or after the recording for a name.

Of course, it’s not perfect. If your browser freezes for a second while you are recording, then you will hear a pause when you play it back. You could try using File2HD before recording to see if you could find the audio file to download. Do a search on my site for File2HD and you should see it. Until I really need to use Freecorder, I’m just going to hide the toolbar.

Freecorder is free and works with Firefox/IE on all versions of Windows.
