Some Quick Screenshot Tips
By Josh | April 23, 2008
I’m always taking screenshots for post ideas that I have. Therefore, I’m always looking for new ways to quickly take a screenshot. I especially like to take screenshots of only a window and not the whole screen. You may already know about the two tips I’m going to post, but if not, then I’m sure they will help you out.
Take a screenshot of only a window
This works in Windows (I’m on Vista, but I think it works for other versions of Windows too). When you have only one window that you want to take a screenshot of, make sure that window is the active window. Then hold down Alt while pressing the Print Screen key. This will capture only the active window, which you can then paste into your image editor.
Select a portion of the screen for a screenshot (Windows Vista only)

In Windows Vista, there is a tool built in called the Snipping Tool. You can find it under Start>Accessories. With this tool, you just select the portion of the screen that you want to take a screenshot of, and it will display it when you are done. There are a few options available that allow you make some markings on your image including a highlighter and a pen. You can then save your image as a GIF, JPEG, PNG, or email it.

This is the easiest way I have found to take screenshots. Just did a whole bunch of them over at the i-Lighter blog. Worked well and really helped make my point about the ease of using this free application.
