Wallpapoz: Automatically Change Background [Linux]

By Josh | April 30, 2008

WallpapozI’ve been hunting around for a lot of software on Linux, and one of the nicer ones that I just found is Wallpapoz.  This program makes it easy to automatically change wallpapers.  Now, before I go on, I want to make sure you know that this works for Gnome.  I’m not sure about KDE.

Wallpapoz has a simple GUI that allows you to set up which wallpapers you want it to use, and when you want it to use them.  You can even set it up to use a different set of wallpapers on different desktops.  In the preferences, you can set the time and whether you want it to pick an image randomly.  You can also set it so that it will automatically change the background when you change to a different desktop.  You can easily add a file or a whole directory to Wallpapoz.

I currently have Wallpapoz set to change the wallpaper ever minute, although that can get a little distracting.  I do wish there was a way to minimize it to the notification area, and be able right click the icon and select whether to change the background or pause the Daemon.  Right now, I’m using Alltray to minimize it to the tray.  However, you don’t have to keep the program running.  Once you initiate the Daemon, it will continue to change the background even if the program isn’t running.  Give it a try if you constantly find yourself changing your background.
