Bookmarks for week ending 5/3/08

By Josh | May 3, 2008

I’m on a long trip home for summer break so that is why I haven’t posted much in the last couple days.  Here are my bookmarks for this week.  I’m sure you’ll find something interesting.

  1. Howto: Setup Compiz Fusion with open source ati radeon drivers
A howto on getting Compiz Fusion working on older ATI cards. I might take a look at this over the summer. I’m thinking about installing Ubuntu on an older laptop of mine.
  2. Firefox 3, del.icio.us, and you
Firefox 3 Delicious extension is finally available for a Beta release.
  3. [all variants] Comprehensive Multimedia & Video How-to - Ubuntu Forums
A great guide posted on the Ubuntu forums about getting everything related to multimedia and video working. Had some great suggestions on there about converting video and audio.
  4. FLVto
I have yet to try this since the website has been down. Apparently it will convert youtube videos.
  5. GnomeFiles - GNOME/GTK+ Software Repository
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this site before. A good place to find software for Gnome.
  6. InterfaceLIFT
A good place to get some wallpapers. There are also icons and other things available on this site, but I have yet to look at those.
  7. Wallpapoz — Gnome Desktop Wallpapers Configuration Tool
A nice program that will automatically change your background.  I wrote a post on it this week.
  8. Howto: Record soundcard output with Audacity in KDE [Update: and Gnome] « /home/liquidat
A great post on how to get Audacity recording soundcard output on KDE or Gnome. I had no trouble with recording sound with Ubuntu’s sound recorder, but when I tried Audacity, it didn’t work. This is an easy fix.
  9. Hack Attack : Find The Most Obscure MP3’s Using Google | dailyApps
Some good hacks on searching for music via Google or other search engines.
  10. 10 Tips for After You Install or Upgrade Ubuntu | Tombuntu
If you have Ubuntu installed, then you’ll find some great tips on here. One that I’m going to use once I boot back into Ubuntu is disabling the internal speaker beep. That thing just gets on my nerves.
  11. Presdo | Make Time To…
A nice site to quickly make a todo list. Integrates with different calendars, like Google Calendar. Type in a task and date, and it will schedule it for you. Looks like this might be a good alternative to RTM.
