Desktop RSS Ticker: Snackr

By Josh | May 19, 2008

For all of you people who love subscribing to RSS feeds, then you might want to check out Snackr.  It will display a ticker of your selected RSS feeds on your desktop.  Snackr runs off of Adobe Air, so it will work on Windows, Mac, and Linux.  Snackr would be great for viewing those of you who don’t always get around to reading your RSS feeds.

Snackr will dock to the top, bottom, left, or right side of your screen.  The news will be displayed at a constant speed, and when you want to read an article you just click on it.  It will then open a little excerpt, and if you want to read the rest of the article you just click the “View post” button.  You can also hide the ticker if you don’t always want it up.  The speed of the ticker can be varied in the options window.

One thing that might be of some concern is that it will get in the way of maximized windows.  The website just says that Snackr is more important.  I wish there would be some way to keep it out of the way of maximized windows, since the only solution is to resize your windows.  That seems to be my only problem with it.

I can’t see myself using this too much since I seem to stay caught up with my RSS subscriptions each day.  It does look kind of nice on my desktop, so maybe I’ll start it up every now and then.
