Songbird 0.7 RC1 Released

By Josh | August 4, 2008

I haven’t been keeping an eye on Songbird for a while, but I did notice that they just updated the software to a new release candidate.  There are some notable changes and improvements in this version that may make it a regularly used media player for me.  Lately I’ve been using iTunes because of my iPhone, but I may use Songbird since it starts quicker than iTunes and doesn’t lag as much.

One improvement worth mentioning is the use of GStreamer to handle more codecs.  I think this was a good choice so that you can play more media files.  There is also a smart playlist feature, which will create a playlist based on your set criteria.

If you haven’t given Songbird a try yet, then download it for free.  It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
