What’s on my Jailbroken iPhone?

By Josh | October 1, 2008

As you may have seen from my Twitter account, I jailbroke my iPhone on Sunday.  I had talked in the past about really seeing no reason for jailbreaking an iPhone, but I got bored over the weekend, so I decided to jailbreak my iPhone.  I thought I’d write this post to show some people just what you can do on a jailbroken iPhone, and also to maybe give some people some idea of where to start after jailbreaking an iPhone for the first time.

Winterboard

This is definitely a must have if you want to customize your iPhone.  There are a bunch of Themes available on both Cydia and Installer.  The theme that I currently have enabled on my iPhone is the Steroe’s Leopard theme, which gives your phone a nice Mac style look.

dTunes

dTunes is nice for downloading music and video straight to your iPhone.  However, the music and video that you download will not be available to your iPod app, you have to use the dTunes app to play any music and video that you download.

Make it Mine

This is a little app that allows you to easily change the carrier logo to something that you specify.  It’s a small change, but I think it’s a nice custimization feature.  I currently have my carrier logo set to my name.

Boss Prefs

This app allows you to quickly change some settings on your iPhone.  You can easily switch 3G, Edge, Wifi, Bluetooth, SSH, and Gmail on or off.  There’s also a nice feature included with this app that I like to have enabled, and that’s the Numeric Battery.  Instead of having the normal battery indicator in the top right of the iPhone, you can set it to a numeric indicator.  It gives a little better insight as to how much battery life you have left.

NemusSync

This is a great app that has a feature that I wish was included with the iPhone.  It allows you to easily sync your calendar with Google Calendar.  It’s fairly easy to setup, except for the fact that it doesn’t seem to upload current calendars on your iPhone.

Some other random things I have installed are Cycorder, Five Icon Dock, MxTube, QuickGold, and StatusNotifier.  There are other apps that are installed, but I really don’t use them and will probably uninstall them.  There are plenty of other useful apps for a jailbroken iPhone that I haven’t used yet so I’m sure you’ll find something that I haven’t listed here.

Are there any apps for a jailbroken iPhone that you use that you think should be listed here?
