Rumors: New Mac Notebooks

Sorry for the complete lack of posting last week.  I’ve really not found too much interesting to write about lately.  I didn’t want to put something up just for the sake of having a new post.  Something that has grabbed my interest in the past few days is that there has been news about Apple releasing new laptops this coming week.

One rumor is that Apple is going to be releasing an $800 notebook to compete with the growing market of “netbooks.”  I personally hope this rumor is true since I’m thinking about buying a new notebook and I’m just a poor college student.  I have been debating on whether to get a new notebook running Windows or Mac.  I haven’t actually used the Mac operating system since I was in elementary school, but I’ve been really interested lately in trying it out.

A couple reasons why I want to try out a Mac are: Windows Vista gets on my nerves most of the time, and Ubuntu is too much of a time sink trying to figure out how to get everything working together at the same time.  Now, I’m sure Mac has its problems, but it’s my last option.  I just hope that if I do get one of the new notebooks on the cheaper end, that it will run better than my current notebook, which its limiting factor is that it is running on 512 MB RAM.

Another rumor going around is that the new Mac notebooks are going to have a new NVidia chipset instead of the current Intel chipset.  According to the rumors, there won’t be a significant difference between the chipsets on the normal MacBooks and the Pro versions.  This will be great since the NVidia chipsets are a big improvement over the Intel chipsets.

The announcement is supposed to be on Tuesday, and I’m guessing that the new notebooks will be available by that time also, although I’m kind of confused about that.  If they do come out this week, I’m not sure if I’ll be getting one that soon.  I may have to save up a little more money before I buy one.  What do you think about the rumors?  Are you going to be buying one?
