I use Twitter every day now. I remember I went through a period of time where I thought Twitter was the most worthless thing around, and wondered why anybody would ever want to use it. Well, now that I’m pretty much addicted to it, I figured I’d post some of the tools that I’ve recently been using. These have changed over time, and I’m sure I’ll be using something different in the future, but these are what I’m currently using.
- TweetLater – Has many nice features that I use quite often. The newest one I recently noticed and used is the unfollow those who unfollow you feature. It can also autofollow those who follow you, send an automatic direct message to those who follow you, and schedule tweets. It has other features too that I really don’t use, and a paid version that gives even more features.
- SocialToo – Kind of similar to TweetLater, except the one feature that I use that TweetLater doesn’t have, a daily digest of new followers and unfollowers. I like to enable this and turn off emails from Twitter so that I get one email a day and not multiple emails taking up my inbox.
- Tweecious – A nice addon for Firefox that saves your links in Twitter to your Delicious account.
- Userscripts – I found this nice list of userscripts on DownloadSquad that I have started using for the web interface of Twitter. They really add some nice functionality. Features added include a search box, trends list, adding some link titles in place of URLs, inline media viewing, and nested replies.
- Auto-refresh – Another userscript that actually works. I’ve tried out many different auto-refresh scripts for Twitter, but none of them worked until I tried this one. It’s great if you use the web interface a lot, which is what I tend to be doing more often now.
TweetLater and SocialToo are both similar, but each offer something that the other doesn’t. They both also have paid features, but they aren’t worth it to me. I’m always looking for more ways to improve my Twitter experience; so if you know something that I didn’t mention here then please leave a comment.
